Posts newer than 10 hours old not federating?

submitted by He/him

When I view All and sort by New, there are no posts that have federated after 10 hours ago for some reason. I’m assuming this is related to the update? Not sure if there’s an issue with comments as well, it’s just most noticeable with the lack of posts.

Ok, this has been fixed. Kaity went digging, and we discovered there was a recent change that paused federation if redis was using lots of memory. We run afoul of it, because we run multiple instances through redis, so it uses a lot of memory. We’re spec’d for it, but the code didn’t account for setups like ours, so as a result, federation was paused.

Kaity has manually coded around the check for now to get us up and running again, and I’ve touched base with rimu (the piefed dev) to let him know what happened!

As of 15 hours ago, some of my stuff still wasn’t federating. (You posted this 17 hours ago, for reference.)

I can’t work out what’s going on with your posts.

As you can see, this one federated out to lemmy.world where the community is hosted https://lemmy.world/post/36264174, but it has almost 0 interaction, which is weird.

Though, I did reply to it before checking whether it had federated externally, so it may be my interaction that triggered the federation.

Can I ask that you make a post or two to some remote communities. They can be the lemmy meta community, or even genuine interactions with communities you’re part of. When you’ve done that, wait a few minutes, and manually check on the instance that hosts the community to see if its there. (Or just let me know you’ve posted, and I’ll have a look)

Something is broken I left a message in the matrix support room. Hopefully admins will see it.

Thanks for letting them know on Matrix! Hopefully it’s an easy fix, whatever’s wrong
