"You can totally tell this movie was shot in Toronto," says man about movie set in Toronto

In the Star Trek: Strange New Worlds episode “Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow” a couple of people from the future arrive on present day Earth, and the one who’s never been to Earth guesses they’re in New York, when there’s a sign in the background that clearly says “TORONTO EATON CENTRE”. My initial reaction was that that was a really dumb mistake to make during shooting, but then the other character was like “Actually, this is Toronto, the largest city in what used to be Canada” and it was they knew what they were doing during shooting.
